For the past 20+ years, James King has been blending his IT background with librarianship to create innovative new workflows and services to better meet the changing needs of the library's clients. For the past several years at NIH, as Information Architect James has served as an internal consultant for the library's informationists (embedded librarian) program, creating unique technology solutions to support collaboration, systematic reviews, and research portfolio management using a variety of tools including Drupal. Previously, James' efforts transformed the Naval Research Laboratory's library from a print-based traditional library to a cutting-edge digital library.

James is very active in the Special Libraries Association (SLA), serving as 2010 President of the DC Chapter, convener of the SLA Information Futurist Caucus, chair of the SLA Nominating Committee (2012), and a member of two national conference planning councils. James speaks regularly on the future impact/opportunities of technology, on the role of libraries in researcher metrics, and two recent keynote addresses to government librarians on the role of innovation in creating a new future in government libraries. James has a Master in Library & Information Science from Catholic University of America (2002) and a Bachelors of Computer Graphics from Salem International University (1989). James has served on several industry library advisory boards and has received several recognitions including SLA Fellow (2011), SLA Innovations in Technology Award (2006), and ALA's Federal and Armed Forces Libraries Round Table Achievement (2006) and Distinguished Service (2003) Awards. In his 'free' time, he and his wife Carla spoil their daughter Sarah.
