Numerous reports on economic decline in libraries and studies with mixed pronouncements on the value of libraries have led to a negative self-image within the library profession. Yet libraries' leadership in connecting learners to knowledge is at the heart of producing many of the key skills sorely needed in robust societies and economies. The library world has many untapped opportunities for positioning itself as prominent strategic partner.
How can library leaders promote a healthy sense of value in their organization and constituencies?
This two-part interactive session kicked off with research from librarianship, economics, as well as skill-development research in business and human resources, economics, education, and the military.
The session’s interactive portion included group discussions, live poll participation, and real-time display of responses. The captured themes and insights prompted discussion among the participants and spurred creative thinking about action items and ideas for application in their own environments.
