This program brings experienced experts together to help you prepare for this next iteration of innovation and libraries! Makerspaces – also called hackerspaces, InnovationLabs, TechShops, CreateSpaces, TinkerMills, hackspaces, hacklabs, fablabs and many other names – are collaborative spaces where people gather to create, invent, learn and share. Because of the creative aspect of these centers, they have often been developed in libraries. Just as authors of the 20th century gathered in the Rose Main Reading Room of the New York Library to access the 40+ million collections in over 400 languages as they researched their books; today libraries are offering a wide range of resources, tools and technologies to help today’s users create, invent and produce a broad array of works using state-of-the-art technologies as well as traditional machinery. This program introduces these new services as they have developed in public and academic environments.
